Free Resume Printing During the Recession
Hoffman Estates, IL • February 1, 2009 – Plum Grove Printers is encouraging other printers to emulate its Career Assist Program. Founded in 1980, Plum Grove Printers is a 10,000-sq.-ft. operation with 35 employees.
As he has done during 2000 and 2001 economic downturns, owner Peter “the Printer” Lineal offers unemployed people 100 free custom business cards, 50 resumes, 50 pieces of blank stationery, and 50 blank envelopes on his website, www.plumgroveprinters.com. “This is America,” says Lineal. “A lot of people are hurting. We have to take care of our neighbors. It’s a pay-it-forward kind of thing.”

Users can typeset business networking cards online and upload their resumes for print. A shipping charge applies to mail orders, but pick-up orders are free. “There’s no catch,” says Lineal. “We’re not signing people up for any hidden agenda or program. The comments we get are payment enough.”
“Thanks for giving back to the community,” wrote one local businessperson in an e-mail to Lineal. “Unless you had an out-of-work experience, you can’t imagine what a fine gesture this is to people in transition.”
“I learned of your service through the St. Hubert’s Job Networking ministry,” an unemployed man told Lineal. “Thank you for helping out the unemployed like myself. I really appreciate it.”
An unemployed woman also praised Lineal’s generosity. “More companies should take your lead,” she wrote. “I still have contacts in the industry and will suggest your company. I remember ordering from you when I was employed. Your work was always exceptional. Thank you again for making a difference.”
A current customer also weighed in: “I used to work near your shop and when my present company needed to switch printers, I recommended you because of the service we received. Your service to the community reinforces my recommendation and I thank you.”
