Macintosh 128K

Personal computers came along in the early ’80s, although their impact really exploded when the Internet came along later in the ’90s. As the Macintosh and other computers were introduced to the world, less paper was used because people could put documents on computers and on disks. But it also created more paper use, because people could now write books or design brochures themselves. It meant that designers could design projects much faster. The technology created more content and information in the world – and the need for printing. But it also created a platform for information in an electronic format, so people didn’t need to have it in a printed form. Transactional paper started to drift away, applications and forms became increasingly computerized. And on the other hand, people started requesting, “Print this full-color brochure” or “Print this book I wrote.”
